So as I've probably already mentioned, I really only cook simple foods ... you're not going to find recipes with 20 ingredients or more listed, etc. This is certainly an easy to make dessert and quite tasty.
What you'll need:
2 cans of Cherry Pie Filling
1 box yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter
Preheat oven to 375.
In a baking dish pour 2 cans of cherry pie filling into the bottom of the dish. (I used a 12" circular dish, although if you want to shorten your cook time, you can use a 9x13 dish).
Open your butter and cut it up into Tablespoon-sized chunks and place in a microwave safe bowl.
Microwave the butter in the bowl for 20 seconds, remove and stir and microwave for another 20 seconds and stir. If the butter is not melted by this point, heating it for 10-15 seconds more and stir each time until it is. You're wanting the butter to be completely melted.
Now open your box of cake mix and sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the cherry pie filling. **I only used about 3/4 of the box of cake mix in this dish. If you are using a 9x13 dish, then you may want to use the entire box so you have a good coverage of the mix over the cherries. The more mix on top, the longer it will take to cook.
Pour your melted butter all over the top of the cake mix. You want your cake mix to mostly be covered with butter.
Go ahead and stick the dish in the oven. It took about 45-50 minutes to cook this in the 12" bowl. If you are using a 9x13 dish, your cook time will likely be less. You're going to bake this until the top is golden brown and if you stick a toothpick in the middle of the dish and remove it that it comes out clean. (You don't want gooey cake batter, you want it to be cooked through.)
Now while it's still warm, serve it up in a bowl with a hearty scoop of vanilla bean ice cream... YUM!
I hope ya'll enjoy.... :-)
