One of my favorite things that we do is Family Movie Night. Just about every other weekend we rent a kid-friendly movie (usually from Redbox or Blockbuster) and sometimes we pick up a pizza and I almost always have drop and bake cookies in the fridge the get baked. We usually take our baths early, eat our pizza in our PJs and Big D and Handyman work on pulling out the sofa bed while I start the cookies. Recently we've been adding stuffed animals to the bed too.
I love the excitement on Big D's face when he hears "Family Movie Night". He loves to snuggle up next to Little D or me and Handyman and eat cookies. What's funny about it, is that usually it's not really a matter of watching the movie as much as it is the time snuggled up with each other on the sofa bed giggling and enjoying each others company.
This past weekend we had decided we would have "Family Movie Night" and told Big D that if he could be really good at the grocery store, that we would go to Redbox and get a movie. Oh yes! He was happy! He jumped up and down! "Yes! Yes! Yes! I will be SOOOO good at the grocery store. You will be so 'pressed. (impressed)." So he remembered and WOW he was definitely good, and what was also quite funny was that he pretty much announced it to everybody in Aldi (we love to shop at Aldi) that he was being really good and it was family movie night!
I think about those nights snuggled on the couch with my boys and I love it. I probably couldn't tell you all of the kid movies we've seen, but I can tell you the smile on my Big D's face will forever be etched in to my brain. I can tell you the sweetness of having him snuggle up next to me, without a care in the world. I hope that when he is older, that these are the times that he looks back on and remembers... the times where our little family simply enjoyed time together.
